Don't Get It Twisted, No Public Holiday On June 12th, 2018 – Presidency

Following the declaration of President Muhammadu Buhari on June 7th that June 12th is now the new Democracy Day in Nigeria to immortalise MKO Abiola for his role in the 1993 free and fair elections, the Presidency has issued a notice to notify the public that the development will be effective from next year having marked the Democracy Day on May 29th, 2018.

This is coming based on the widespread speculations by Nigerians that June 12th, 2018 could be declared as public holiday in Nigeria.

There have been questions regarding whether or not there will be a FEDERAL public holiday on June 12, 2018.

The answer is NO.

Presidential Order says June 12 "in FUTURE YEARS will replace May 29th as a National Public Holiday in celebration of Nigeria Democracy Day."
