I Want Best Education For Kaduna Pupils – Governor El-Rufai

Kaduna State Governor, Nasir el-Rufai, has said that the ongoing reform in the state’s education sector was not intended to punish sacked teachers and civil servants but to ensure that pupils get quality education.

He said this through a video post shared on his twitter handle and linked to his verified Facebook wall early Thursday morning.

The Nigeria Union of Teachers had, on Monday, ordered its members to embark on an indefinite strike over the sacking of about 22,000 teachers by the state government.

The video generated mixed reactions on social media.

In the video, the governor explained that he was interested in giving children of the poor the same quality education as those of the rich in the state.

He disclosed that public education saved him from being an illiterate.

According to him, Kaduna needed a competent public service to have a standard public education system.

He said, “I started life in rural Daudawa as the son of a pensioner. Without public education, I would not have gone to school.

“I believe that the children of the poor are entitled to the same opportunities that I was given.

“Therefore, we have a mission to provide ordinary people and their offspring sustainable ladder for social mobility.

“Our purpose in government is to promote equality of opportunity, to give every child the best prospects through decent education.

“It is to secure for our young people employment opportunities in a vibrant economy regulated by competent public service.

“It is about giving everyone a fair chance in the race of life! It is about being for the people and seeking to empower them, not creating and exploiting dependency.”
